SEO and Local Search
How Google ranking actually works, how long it takes, what it costs, and how to get found by people searching in your area.
SEO attracts more nonsense than any other part of digital marketing, largely because the results take months to appear and almost nobody checks whether the promises were kept. That gap is where the cowboys live.
These guides explain what actually moves rankings, what a reasonable timeframe looks like, and how to tell a real SEO program from an invoice with a report attached.

Quick answers
Can anyone guarantee a number one ranking?
No, and it is worth walking away from anyone who does. Nobody controls Google’s results, and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission takes a dim view of guarantees that cannot be backed up. What a good provider can commit to is the work, the reporting and the direction of travel.
How much of SEO is on my website versus off it?
For most Australian small businesses competing locally, roughly seventy per cent of the winnable gains sit on your own site and your Google Business Profile. Link building matters in competitive national markets, but it is rarely the first thing that is broken.
Will a new website hurt my rankings?
Only if the redirects are handled badly. Done properly, with every old URL mapped to its replacement, a rebuild usually improves rankings because speed and structure improve at the same time.
